Derek Lim, 20, began playing piano at age 6, studying with Ji An for twelve years. During that time, he participated in competitions at the regional, state and international level, and won many awards and scholarships. In 2018, he performed at Carnegie Hall. In 2019 he was inducted into the Young Artists Guild of the Music Teachers Association of California. In April 2021, he performed Ginastera's Piano Sonata No. 1 for the Uplifted Voices Concert at USC, a recital focused on celebrating the works of composers from underrepresented groups. Derek is currently a junior at the University of Southern California studying with Antoinette Perry at the Thornton School of Music. He is pursuing dual degrees in Piano Performance and Applied Mathematics.
